Pataliputra University, Patna was established on 18 March 2018, by order of the Government of Bihar, letter / memo no. 15 / M1-71 / 2016-700, dated 09.04.2018. All colleges in Patna and Nalanda district, Bihar (India), except those affiliated to Patna University, come under the jurisdiction of Pataliputra University. The university has control over 25 constituent colleges, two government girls colleges, three minority colleges and several affiliated colleges.
Many of these colleges run university-approved postgraduate centers in various disciplines in addition to skill-oriented courses in vocational and technical / vocational fields. These affiliated units duly administer the Board of Management approved by their governing local bodies and the University.
